Wigan outbid Celtic for skilful striker

According to reports, Wigan are on the verge of signing Dundee United forward Nadir Ciftci for a reported £1,000,000 after a bid from Celtic was rejected.

The 23 year old striker began his professional career at Portsmouth after moving from Dutch side ADO Den Haag when he was just 15 years old. 2 years later, he signed a professional deal. He made his debut against Coventry in a 2-0 loss at the Ricoh. 2 days later he scored his first ever goal in a League Cup win against Stevenage. He went on to make 19 league appearances for Portsmouth in the 2010/11 season. He was offered a new deal at the end of the season but that was rejected and he joined Turkish side Kayserispor.

His stay in Turkey was short lived and he joined NAC Breda in Holland for the next season. Limited game time frustrated Nadir after only making 7 appearances in the season. He signed a three year deal but his contract was mutually terminated after only one year.

He went on trial with Dundee United and they liked what they saw, he signed a two-year deal and finally got the game time he was after for 4 seasons before joining the Scottish side. He has been ever present at Tannadice Park over the last 2 seasons and was a big part in their Scottish Cup run scoring 3 goals in 5 games, they unfortunately lost the final 2-0 against St. Johnstone. Last season he made up for Gary Mackay-Steven leaving for Celtic by scoring 16 goals and guiding them to a 5th place finish above their rivals, Dundee.

He has been linked with a whole bunch of clubs over this summer but it’s become apparant that a bid from Wigan has been accepted and a Celtic bid was rejected. He could play huge role in helping the Latics move back into the Championship as he surely would take League One by storm.
