U’s Bring Back Baldock

Oxford United have completed their fifth signing of the summer with the capture of MK Dons full-back George Baldock on a season-long loan deal. Baldock has just signed a new two year deal at Stadium M:K but Dons manager Karl Robinson was happy for him to join up with the U’s for the upcoming season.

The 22 year-old right-back made 12 appearances for Oxford last season after joining in loan in February and scored a late equaliser against Morecambe before injury curtailed his spell at the Kassam Stadium. Brother of Sam, George has spent his entire career at MK Dons, making over 50 appearances and has also spent time at Northampton and Tamworth during loan spells.

United Head Coach Michael Appleton was delighted at finally bringing back Baldock after pursuing him for the majority of the close-season so far:

“We are really pleased to have George back again. He fitted in superbly last season, he is a local lad and he is ambitious to be part of a successful side here.”

Baldock will join up with a U’s squad who returned for pre-season yesterday and admitted to the official website that he was looking forward to returning to Oxford:

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Oxford and am more than happy to be back…The fans were great, the club is ambitious and I’m looking forward to joining up with everyone this week and getting a full pre-season under my belt.”

The completion of Baldock’s move is likely to be the end of incoming transfer actions for the immediate future but their could be outgoing business. Longest serving player Ryan Clarke is likely to leave the club by the end of the week after learning that he wouldn’t necessarily be number one following the signing of Sam Slocombe. He is likely to join another League Two club although Oxford have stated that no formal interest has been declared by any club as yet.
