MK Dons continually linked with former Forest ‘utility man’

Reports continue to suggest that Milton Keynes Dons are set to bring former Nottingham Forest player Greg Halford to MK1 this summer.

Halford, 30, is available on a free transfer after his contract with Forest expired and was not renewed.

Halford has spent most of his career with Colchester, where he made 136 league appearances, and Forest, where he made 73 league appearances, and has gained more experience in The Championship than any player currently on the Dons’ books.

He is considered a ‘utility man’, meaning that he can play in almost any position on the football pitch, making him a useful player for teams needing to use makeshift tactics during matches.

He is a natural right back/centre back, but if also capable of playing in the centre of midfield, as a winger or even as a striker if needs be.

The Dons are looking to bring in at least six or seven players, two of which they would prefer to be strikers.

Halford’s ability to play as a striker could see him play frequently for the Dons, whose only striker is currently Tom Hitchcock.

The Dons are also keen to find a replacement for Dele Alli in the centre of midfield, with Halford likely to be given the chance to compete in that position also.

A free transfer for a player of Halford’s experience and flexibility doesn’t come around often and the Dons will be sure to take a long look at the player to ensure he’s what they need.
