Reading midfielder set for Turkey switch

According to Sky Sports sources Reading captain Jem Karacan is on his way to Turkey to finalise his move to Galatasaray after turning down a contract offered to him by the Royals.

As reported earlier in the week on the72.co.uk the move has been in the pipeline for a few days and it now seems that the groundwork has been complete.

Karacan who came through the youth ranks at Wimbledon initially, before moving to the Reading academy in 2003, aged 14.

He signed his first professional contract with Reading in the summer of 2007, making his first team debut in the League Cup the following season against Luton.

After loan spells at Bournemouth and Millwall in the 2007-08 season, Karacan began to establish himself in the Reading first team squad in the  following season, beginning with his debut in the League Cup.

In the three seasons that followed, the London born midfielder made his biggest impact at the club playing over 30 games each season and nailing down his spot in the team.

However, he ended Reading’s historic promotion season in the treatment room after suffering a broken ankle against Leeds in April. This meant he missed the start of the Premier League season and went on to play more of a cameo role with just 21 league appearances.

Back in the Championship, Karacan was plagued with more injury woes and over the past two seasons made just 15 league appearances.

Seen as a club legend by the Reading support, they will be sad to see Karacan go, but his injury record makes it difficult to award him with a long term deal.

The move to Galatasaray is a dream one for the midfielder, who qualifies for the Turkish national side through his father. Throughout his youth development he captained the Turkish youth sides and will look to get back to playing regular games again.

The reports suggest a three year deal has been agreed and Karacan will fly out to Turkey in the coming days to complete a medical and finalise the paperwork.
