Tough twelve months for Northampton Town chairman

Northampton Town chairman David Cardoza has put it down to the last twelve months, as a reason for selling the club.

The Cobblers chairman announced yesterday that the club has agreed a Heads of Terms agreement with an unnamed Indian consortium to take 100% control of the club and the ongoing redevelopment around Sixfields Stadium.

The delays in the progress made by the club during the redevelopment of the East Stand, has brought the chairman criticism from some fans, but he insists that a majority of fans have always shown support in a scheme that is a year behind schedule, with work now stopping again as the club go through a takeover that will take around four weeks to complete, if all goes to plan.

Speaking about a tough twelve months for him, Cardoza said “This has been the worst twelve months of my life.

“Whatever people think it has been no fault of my own, but as a chairman I am obviously the one that has to take the brunt of everything that has happened.

“That has been very disappointing I have to say, but I know the majority of fans have been behind me.

“It has been tough so in a way this all comes together at possibly the right time.

“But I also have to reiterate that this deal is not yet done.

“We very much want it to happen, and there’s no reason why it won’t, but it’s not actually happened yet.

“I only live 10 minutes down the road, I have been here a long time, and I know the idiosyncrasies of everything.

“I won’t be the chairman, but I will probably be somewhere there in the background, certainly through the period of change.”
