Junior Brown signs for Town

Mickey Mellon has added another wide-man to the mix by signing Junior Brown from Mansfield today, Brown played under Mellon at Fleetwood and in a interview today Brown said “Mellon brought some of the best football out of me.” Mellon seems confident that Brown is the right man to be on the flank next season. Mellon has helped develop Brown’s game, so fans should be confident that this appointment is suitable. Brown spent four years at Fleetwood and then moved onto Oxford and Mansfield. However, Brown has only made thirty-six appearances in the last two years and his record seems to suggest he struggles to settle at one club. Mellon has shown in the past that he can help players find their form and Brown will be keen to prove himself to the squad and the fans.

Brown has played in a variety of different leagues, from the Conference to League One so he does have experience. Looking at reactions on social media, Town fans are happy that skill and pace have been added to the flanks, I get the feeling fans think the signing is a bit lack-luster. But Brown is not too old and is comfortable under Mellon, Mellon has shown in the past that he can get the best out of players. Another player coming through the door and onto the wage bill probably means that Grandison and Akpa-Akpro are departing, Andy Mangan’s future still hangs in the balance however. Mellon has his work cut out with restricted funds but he is confident that Town will be ready for League One.
