Rovers in Talks with Former Blackpool Frontman

According to BBC Radio Sheffield sports journalist Andy Giddings, Doncaster Rovers are in talks to sign out of contract striker Steven Davies.

The striker spent time in League One towards the back end of last season after seemingly becoming surplus to requirements at Blackpool; netting three goals in a loan spell with Sheffield United.

The 6’1 hitman began his career in the Wirral with Tranmere Rovers, before moving to Derby in 2008. Davies notched 21 Rams goals in four years, before his transfer to Bristol City.

He scored 13 goals in 37 appearances for the Robins; the most prolific spell of his 10 year career. Following City’s relegation to League One in 2013, the 27 year old moved North to join Blackpool for £500,000.

However, Davies only managed to register eight goals in what has been a dismal chapter in the Tangerines’ history. After Blackpool’s relegation to the third tier, the Liverpudlian departed Bloomfield Road on a free.

Sources in Lanchashire expect the deal to be confirmed within the next 24 to 48 hours. The ex-Tranmere forward will join Thorsten Stuckmann as Paul Dickov’s second summer reinforcement.
