Wigan winger close to West Brom move

West Brom have agreed a fee with Wigan over the transfer of James McClean, according to ESPN.

The winger has been one of the Latics best attacking threats since his move to the DW and he has clearly impressed Tony Pulis, who has made a bid to bring the Irishman to the Hawthorns. West Brom have been on the lookout for new wide players and it looks like McClean fits the bill for the Baggies.

The offer – which has been accepted by Wigan boss Gary Caldwell – is worth £1.5m and the player will now begin talks with West Brom over a move to the Premier League club.

If the 26-year old decides to make the move to the Hawthorns, then he will become the Baggies first signing of the summer and he will also become the second Wigan winger to make the move to the club this year, with Callum McManaman having also joined them back in January.

Wigan will now have to be on the lookout for a replacement and it could come in the form of Sam Clucas, who is still on the radar of boss Gary Caldwell after the club had a bid for the Chesterfield man rejected.

The Latics were bound to lose some players as they prepare for life in League 1 and McClean looks likely to be the next to leave the DW now that this bid has been accepted.
