Posh offer accepted for Gormley #pufc

Peterborough United have today had a transfer offer accepted by Cliftonville for hot-shot striker Joe Gormley.

The club’s leading goalscorer has now been given permission to speak to the Posh, and negotiate the terms of his contract.

This season the striker netted an astounding 40 goals in 48 appearances, including five hat-tricks in the NIFL Premiership. Throughout his career with the Reds, Gormley has scored 111 goals in 133 appearances.

Before moving to Cliftonville, the now 24-year-old netted 61 times in just 24 appearances for Crumlin Star.

Neither side has spoken publicly about the deal, although it seems that it will now be about whether Peterborough can offer Gormley a good enough contract.

The Posh are in the market for a striker capable of matching the output they saw in League One from Craig Mackail-Smith and Britt Assombalonga, and it looks like Gormley may be the man they trust to do that.

Gormley should feel right at home should he end up at The Abax, with former Northern Ireland International Grant McCann now assistant manager at the club, with fellow countryman Michael Smith also playing at the club.
