Steve McClaren set to be named Newcastle boss

Former Derby County head coach Steve McClaren is set to be confirmed as manager of Newcastle United.

The 54-year-old is expected to replace John Carver at St. James’ Park on Tuesday, and has been linked with the role consistently since Alan Pardew’s departure of the club, even after McClaren’s own sacking from Derby.

Derby finished the Championship season in 8th despite looking contenders for automatic promotion for much of the campaign, and McClaren paid the price with his job.

He may be managing in the Premier League next season regardless.
