Coleman Hopes For Mingoia Stay

Accrington Stanley’s diminutive midfielder Piero Mingoia has been in fine form this year, picking up three awards at the Club’s end of season presentation. As you’d expect after receiving so many accolades, last season was a good one for Mingoia and boss John Coleman is desperate not to lose his star player.

“Piero is out of contract and we are in the process of offering him a new deal,”

This is what Coleman told the Club’s official website back in April before the club opened talks with any other players, a clear statement of intent from the manager who returned to the club he gained promotion to the Football League with back in 2006 earlier this year.

Mingoia picked up eight goals, six more than in any of his previous campaigns, in 38 starts from midfield and consistently performed against teams in all positions of the league table. His consistency has earned him the nickname Piero ‘The Postman’ Mingoia because ‘every time he gets the ball he delivers’.

Having offered Piero a new contract, there is nothing more John Coleman can do other than hope the offer is accepted and that he remains an Accrington Stanley player for the coming season. With Nicky Hunt, Kal Naismith and captain Luke Joyce, among others, all leaving the club, Stanley can’t afford another of their key players to leave this summer, especially on a free transfer.

At the age of just 23 Mingoia would be a good prospect for other League Two sides however fans will be hoping that he shows loyalty to the side that gave him his chance back in league football after his release from Watford in 2011.
