Mowbray gets his men: Venus and Clapham join Coventry City’s backroom staff

Following the news of Tony Mowbray’s appointment as Coventry City manager on a 2-year deal last month, the League 1 club yesterday announced the arrivals of Mark Venus and Jamie Proctor into the club, completing Mowbray’s reshuffle of his backroom staff for the forthcoming season.

Mark Venus,  a former team mate of Mowbray’s at Ipswich Town, has followed the Coventry manager throughout his managerial career from Hibernian to Middlesbrough but will be in a new role with the Sky Blues, serving as Mowbray’s technical director, responsible for the recruitment of players and the evolution of the team’s academy.

Former Birmingham City defender Clapham joins the club as assistant to both the first team and the under-21 squad, who will support the first-team as well as assisting under-21 coach Dave Hockaday with the development team.

Mowbray is delighted that he has finally been able to draft in his own backroom staff, and is another step in the Coventry’s managers restructuring of the league 1 club behind the scenes that has also seen a new scouting system put in place during the close season.

Speaking of the latest additions to his backroom staff, Mowbray told the club’s official website:

“Mark is someone I’ve worked with for many years and have enjoyed a lot of success with, and Jamie has impressed me with his coaching skills and development during my time at Middlesbrough.

“These appointments are hopefully the first of many steps to bringing this club forward and pushing for a successful 2015/16 campaign and beyond.”
