Blues have been linked with a move for Dean Whitehead to bolster options in midfield.
The 33-year-old midfielder, who can also operate comfortably at full-back, will see his contract run out at the end of the month and Blues and Huddersfield have reportedly shown an interest.
Whitehead played in the Playoff Final but couldn’t guide Middlesbrough to a win as they succumbed to a 2-0 loss to Norwich.
Whitehead has plenty of Premier League experience and has only been kept out of Middlesbrough’s midfield by the superb form of Grant Leadbitter. A solid midfielder who is more than comfortable on the ball, Whitehead could make a decent replacement for Robert Tesche, who looks less and less likely to join by the day.
