Sheffield United close to naming new manager

Sheffield United are hoping to announce their new manager in the next 48 hours, according to the Sheffield Star.

The Blades have been manager-less since the end of the season, after they decided to end Nigel Clough’s time at the club.

Nigel Adkins is the favourite to take over at Bramall Lane. Phil Parkinson has also been linked but, as we wrote earlier in the week, reports are claiming that the Blades have been snubbed in their approach for the Bradford boss.

Adkins is currently looking for a new job and it means his appointment would be easy and no compensation would be needed – another reason why it looks likely that the ex-Reading and Southampton boss will become the club’s new manager.

Members of the Football League will be holding their annual meeting this week and Sheffield United are hoping to unveil their new boss just before the meeting goes ahead in Portugal – meaning that an announcement could be made in the next two days.
