Dunne Not Finished Proving Himself

Portsmouth midfielder James Dunne has spoken of his determination to prove his worth to new manager Paul Cook.

Dunne enjoyed good season and was a bright spark in an otherwise disappointing campaign for Pompey. Then Blues manager Andy Awford signed the former Stevenage player for a five figure sum on a two-year deal in the summer of 2014.

Dunne (pictured below) established himself as a key player for Awford and became a fans’ favourite for his crunching tackles in midfield .

However, despite his impressive debut season, in which he made 36 appearances, Dunne still feels he has to prove himself to Cook. He told the Portsmouth News:

“When you get a new manager in, it’s a blank sheet for everyone and you have to take your chance. He [Cook] is a very good manager who likes his teams to play football. So I’m looking forward to meeting him and getting the season going.”

Dunne also spoke of his delight at the new faces Cook is bringing in, the 25-year-old said of new winger Kyle Bennett:

“He is a very good player, a good winger and likes to get at players so I’m looking forward to playing with him.”

Pompey have also announced that they will take on Gillingham in a pre-season friendly on August 1st, the first time they will have played each other since a League Cup match in 2005.
