QPR leading race to sign Swindon pair

There has been a twist in this transfer story over the course of the past 24 hours.

On the 25 May, we at the 72 brought you the news that Aston Villa were preparing to make a bid for Massimo Luongo and Ben Gladwin. We did mention that there was some interest from QPR but that Villa were in pole position.

However, it now appears that the Hoops are leading the race to sign the two players. According to the Gazette and Herald, a deal is very nearly done to send the pair of them to Loftus Road.

In fact, a deal could very well be done today. Both players are believed to be in West London so that they can have a medical at the club ahead of a move.

Tim Sherwood was keen to do a deal to sign them both for Aston Villa, as part of his new transfer policy to only sign players aged 25 or below. He has also worked with Luongo before at Tottenham and was hoping to link up with the midfielder again at Villa Park.

But, it is QPR who now have the upper hand, as they begin to recruit the players they need to bounce back in the Championship next season after their relegation from the Premier League.

Swindon will remain in League 1 next season after losing out on promotion in the Play-Off final. Gladwin and Luongo have both impressed with their performances during the 2014/15 season and it appears that they could now be off to a team in a higher tier.
