Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson looks ahead to next season

Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson is adamant that any improvement on this season will see his side promoted to the Premier League.

Middlesbrough, who finished fourth, lost the Championship Play-Off Final 2-0 to Norwich City, having spent the majority of the season chasing automatic promotion.

Although disappointed, Gibson was keen to suggest his side will come back better than ever.

“We’ve improved on last year, so we’ve got to try and improve again – and if you do that then you’re in the Premier League.

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. All of us, not just as individuals but as a team–it will make us a better team and better people and 100 percent make us stronger.”

Manager Aitor Karanka has suggested numerously throughout the season that his team were overachieving with their promotion credentials. There is a growing weight of expectation on Teesside, however, and Middlesbrough fans will hope that next year they go one better.
