Eddie Howe named LMA Manager of the Year ahead of José Mourinho

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has been named LMA Manager of the Year after guiding Bournemouth into the top flight for the first time in their history.

Howe, 37, claimed the award at the expense of Chelsea manager José Mourinho, who was named Premier League Manager of the Year by the League Managers’ Association.

The League One and League Two honours went, respectively, to Steve Cotterill of Bristol City and Gareth Ainsworth of Wycombe Wanderers.

Howe is just the second manager to win the award from outside the top division, after Steve Coppell won the award with Reading in 2006.

Howe’s Bournemouth have attracted a lot of praise after their title-winning campaign in which they pipped Watford to top spot on the final day.

Brendan Rodgers, who presented the award to Howe, commented: “He’s done a fine job, a remarkable job, and done it with style and humility.”

Howe himself said: “I can’t believe it. I’m so surprised.”

After a fantastic season for both him and his club, he may be the only one.
