Cook Targets Championship

Portsmouth manager Paul Cook has demanded that his new club reach the Championship under his tenure.

In a move that will surely delight fans of the League Two side, Cook has also emphasized that his team will play the right way in their fight for promotion. Cook has already signed winger Kyle Bennett (pictured) with more attacking options on the way.

Cook took charge two weeks ago after Andy Awford left by mutual consent with Pompey nowhere near the play-off target the board had set last summer. The board then installed the former Chesterfield boss as manager with promotion again the aim. Cook also revealed his Championship target in the Portsmouth News:

“I believe, in today’s market, we could be a Championship club. It’s going to take time. Playing will be our way. You must have a good fitness level to press the ball at source.

Chief executive Mark Catlin has also come out to say that the board will provide significant investment for Cook to rebuild. He said that the money used to bring Cook to Pompey was “worth paying to bring in our number one choice”.

The bookies have also installed the Blues as favourites with William Hill offering odds of 5/1 on Pompey winning the Football League’s bottom tier next season.
