It was rumoured last night that Brentford had made an audacious bid to sign outgoing Dortmund manager Jürgen Klopp to take over from Mark Warburton at Griffin Park. However, the Daily Mail claim that Matthew Benham’s audacious bid has actually been knocked back and that they have turned their focus elsewhere. Brentford, who finished fifth in the Championship after having a consistently good campaign, are instea reported to be “close” to signing Dutch coach Marinus Dijkhuizen, who is currently in charge of Rotterdam-based Excelsior in the Dutch Eredivisie, where Dijkhuizen has confirmed an approach has been made. Whilst not concretely confirmed, well-respected Dutch magazine Voetbal International say that a deal is imminent. Such news has caused a reaction on Twitter, as you’d expect.
The idea of Dijkhuizen joining Brentford excites me. He is so inexperienced, but has done very well at Excelsior. Clearly a talented coach.
