More To Come At Pompey

Paul Cook has promised Portsmouth fans that there will be more new signings following Kyle Bennett’s arrival on the South Coast.

The 48-year-old joined the club twelve days ago and has already made his mark, releasing nine players and overhauling his backroom staff. With Pompey desperate for promotion the club are keen to invest heavily in the squad.

Star midfielder Jed Wallace was sold for over £275,000 and chief executive Mark Catlin has revealed that the money will be spent on new players. He told the Portsmouth News:

“Money raised will always look to be invested back into the playing side of the business to give our fans the success they deserve. Enabling us to recruit players to give us the greatest chance of success on the pitch.”

Cook is also targeting promotion and has recruited former Doncaster Rovers winger Kyle Bennett on a two-year contract to plug the gap that Wallace leaves.

There have also been rumours that Cook is attempting to sign Chesterfield duo Gary Roberts and Jimmy Ryan. After announcing his first signing’s arrival Cook promised fans in an interview with the Portsmouth News:

“This is the first of what we hope are many exciting signings for the club and we’re working hard to make sure others also happen.”

Portsmouth are expected to announce several new players this week while Cook’s assistant at Chesterfield, Leam Richardson, has taken up the same position at Fratton Park.
