#RETAINED – Cardiff release club legend McNaughton

N.B: Cardiff’s retained list was released on the 5th May but other commitments have postponed the publishing of this article.

Cardiff have revealed that they will be releasing a club legend in Kevin McNaughton as part of their retained list.

The Scotland man signed on for the Bluebirds back in 2006 and since then he has gone on to appear in 282 games for the club. His last appearance came against Southampton, back when the club were in the Premier League.

He played a key role in getting Cardiff to the Premier League in the first place and he also took part in an FA Cup final, League Cup final and Play-Off final as part of the squad. However, the club are still going to try and arrange a testimonial game for him.

In addition to McNaughton, the Bluebirds have also announced that they will be releasing Danny Gabbidon and Nicky Maynard when their contracts expire.

Gabbidon had two spells at the club and his most recent one saw him take both player and coaching duties under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Maynard has been at the club since 2012 and spent some of 2014 on loan at Wigan Athletic.

As for who will be staying on at the club, Ben Wilson has put pen to paper on a new deal keeping him at the Cardiff City Stadium until 2017.
