Blackpool v Huddersfield: Sorted

Today the Football League have decided that the official scoreline for the match involving Blackpool and Huddersfield Town on the 2nd of May will go down as a 0-0.

The match was bizarrely halted on the 48th minute, due to a pitch invasion of Blackpool fans protesting against owner Karl Oyston. After over an hour of the game being brought to a stop, the match officials abandoned the match.

Chris Powell had stated he couldn’t see the game being replayed as many of his players were leaving for their holidays. Many had predicted the scoreline would be given as a 0-3 Huddersfield Town win, but the Football League have instead decided the result will be concluded as a 0-0, because of their belief that the scoreline should be earned on the field of play.

In the official Football League statement, it said “The Board took the view that the 0-0 scoreline that stood at the time of the game’s abandonment (in the 48th minute) should be officially recorded as the final result of the match, as it believes that league points should always be earned on the field of play.”

With the result now clarified, it means that Huddersfield stay in 16th position on 55 points and Blackpool move onto 26 points, sharing the worst ever points total for a Championship team with Stockport County who also finished on 26 points back in the 2001/2002 season.
A Football Disciplinary Commission will now decide on the punishment given to Blackpool, which is likely to include a heavy fine and a possible points deduction. The commission will also decide on compensation owed to Huddersfield as well as ticket refunds for supporters.
