Chelsea ready bid for Norwich City’s key player

Jose Mourinho is, according to the Daily Star, eyeing up a bid for Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy as they look at replace Petr Cech, who is likely to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

With Arsenal and Liverpool both interested in signing Cech, Chelsea will be looking for experienced back-up to Number 1 keeper Thibaut Courtois.

Much will depend on how Norwich’s promotion campaign goes, as the Canaries would be much more likely to have to sell should they fail to achieve promotion to the Premier League.

Chelsea had a bid rejected by the Canaries back in 2013, when the Premier League Champions offered £5 million for the stopper.

England international Ruddy has been the man-between-the-sticks for the Yellows for five seasons since his move from Everton back in 2010.

Starting his career at Cambridge United, Ruddy had nine loan spells during his time on Merseyside, but only made one Premier League appearance for the Toffees.

His performances in the Premier League with Norwich showed the quality of the 28 year-old, as he was awarded the Players’ Player of the Year for the 2011-12 season.
