Red Devils join the battle for Blues starlet

Manchester United are the latest club to join in the race for Birmingham City’s youngster Demarai Gray.

The 18 year-old has earned rave reviews during his two seasons at St Andrew’s, leading to attention from many Premier League clubs.

Birmingham officials spoke last month about how they were resigned to losing their exciting winger during the summer, and a move from one of the biggest clubs in the world could be enough to persuade them to part ways with Gray.

Man United have a track record of bringing in young English talent and nurturing them into first-team players, with Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling, and Phil Jones all being recent examples.

A move straight into United’s first-team would be a bit far-fetched for the hot prospect, and so a loan back to Blues would not be a surprise should be complete a transfer to Old Trafford.

With Gray out of contract next summer, Gary Rowett risks losing the winger on a free next seasons should he be kept this summer and not sign an extension.
