Chelsea manager watching in the Championship

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was at Brentford on Friday night to watch his currently loaned-out striker Patrick Bamford perform in the Play-offs.

Bamford is currently on-loan at Middlesbrough and at the age of just 21-years old, he is one of the hottest prospects in English Football.

Middlesbrough won the game and go into their home leg with a 2-1 lead, with the help from Jelle Vossen who opened the scoring just before the half-an-hour mark, and a late strike from Fernando Amorebieta in the 90th minute to secure the victory after Brentford forward Andre Grey netted an equaliser just less than ten minutes into the second half.

It is seen that current Chelsea striker Diego Costa reserves the first place on the team sheet up-front, but Mourinho is looking at anyone performing good enough in the squad to fulfill the spaces up for grabs as a back-up for when Costa is not available or is possibly dropped.

Bamford joined Chelsea from the academy of Nottingham Forest in January 2012, and has since seen himself loaned out to MK Dons, Derby and Middlesbrough.

He has made 43 appearances for Middlesbrough, helping them secure a play-off spot of fourth position after narrowly missing out on automatic promotion to the Premier League. In this time, Bamford has scored 17 goals in the league and netted a total of 19 times in all competitions.
