It’s that time of year again – the Football League season has drawn to a close (apart from the play-offs of course) and clubs now begin to release their ‘retained lists.’

In this article, we bring you new League 2 side Notts County’s list. The club are of course now dealing with the prospect of League 2 after relegation from League 1 and they’ll want to hold onto as many key players as possible.

However, they have released the club captain for the season, Hayden Mullins. Here’s the full list of ins and outs:

Signed New Deals: Roy Carroll, Alan Smith

Offered New Deals: Jordan Richards, Lartey Sarpong

Negotiating: Garry Thompson, Gary Jones, Balint Bajner

Still In Talks With: Kevin Pilkington, Mike Edwards

Released: Mustapha Dumbuya, Fabian Spiess, Greg Tempest, Cieron Keane, Brad McGowan, Hayden Mullins, Drissa Traore, Elliot Whitehouse, Shaun Harrad.

Under Contract: Blair Adams, Haydn Hollis, Will Hayhurst, Nicky Wroe, Jimmy Spencer, Ronan Murray, Taylor McKenzie, Curtis Thompson, Liam Noble, Billy Daniels, Colby Bishop. Jordan Cranston.

Loan Ended: Sean Newton, Leroy Lita, Paddy McCourt, Graham Burke, Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Jordan Williams.

Hayden Mullins only signed for County on a free last summer but he has been released after just a year. Keeper Fabian Spiess has also left the club after five years with them, to go in search of first team football. He made just two appearances for the Magpies this term, due to the form of other goalkeeper Roy Carroll, who has put pen to paper on a new one-year deal.

Alan Smith, formerly of Man United and MK Dons, has also agreed to a new one-year deal at the club, again on a player-coach basis.

With the release of these nine players (and with the six loanees also returning to their parent clubs) it paves the way for County to recruit new players to help them bounce straight back up a league next season.

Magpies fans: Are you happy with the retained players? Do you agree with who the manager has released? Be sure to let us know!
