Has Power signed a pre-contract agreement?

Due to Tranmere’s drop out of the Football League, speculation has escalated surrounding Max Power’s future. Despite relegation, Power has a great season at Prenton Park; this has led to Power attracting interest from a number of clubs. This is not the first time transfer rumours have emerged concerning Power, Celtic and Brighton have tried to lure Power away from Birkenhead. Despite offers rumoured to go up to £400,000, Power signed a new contract to stay with Tranmere with the rest of season.

Even though interest has been shown by big clubs, it is rumoured a pre-contract agreement has been signed by Power that will see him leave Prenton Park for the Greenhous Meadow. Shrewsbury is a suitable option for Power’s development, a team that field a young team every week and have developed great talent in the past. Another factor is the players at Shrewsbury, a great team and atmosphere at the club must be attractive for any footballer. Town also have a big number of players that originate from Liverpool, players like Bobby Grant have found it easy to settle at the club this season. Shrewsbury will be searching for centre-midfielders; Power would be a great addition to the dressing room. Power also did not appear in Tranmere’s latest kit unveiling, this could suggest that his time at the club is coming to an end.

Power has shown loyalty towards his hometown club, rejecting a move to the SPL Champions to stay at a relegation threatened club proves this. Playing in the Conference might be a step to far for Power’s loyalty; his development will progress much quicker if he secures a move to a bigger club. The 21 year old shows great promise and there is no surprise rumours circulate his future, with an abundance of young talent at the Greenhous Meadow, Power would be a great asset. It has been said that Tranmere will receive compensation if Power signs for another British club, but if the rumours are true it will be a fantastic piece of business by Mickey Mellon.
