Ex-Premier League defender a target for Gary Bowyer

Bolton’s versatile defender Alex Baptiste has spent the season on-loan with Blackburn and Rovers boss Gary Bowyer is keen to get the player back for next term.

Playing 34 games during his spell at Ewood Park, Baptiste was a huge contributor to the Rovers defensive efforts, and even scored three goals.

Arriving at Bolton from Blackpool in 2013, the 29 year-old has only played seven games for The Trotters, which led to his loan move to Blackburn.

During his time with Blackpool, Baptiste twice helped the Seasiders into the play-offs: winning them and attaining promotion to the Premier League in 2009-10, and finishing runners-up in the 2011-12 season.

Vastly experienced, the centre-back has played over 275 games for seven clubs during a career spanning 13 years.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, Bowyer said: “Alex has been fantastic for us and given different circumstances we would love to keep him.”

“He made a massive contribution, scoring three goals as well, and he’s a top lad. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with him and if he can’t come back to us then we wish him all the best.”

Bowyer was also keen to say how the defender would be welcomed back to Rovers if he time at the Macron Stadium proves unsuccessful.
