Several Championship clubs tracking Mansfield’s young talent

Mansfield’s 18 year-old midfielder Jack Thomas has, according to manager Adam Murray, been drawing interest from ‘a couple of Championship clubs’.

The youngster has been a bright star in what was a miserable season for the Stags, as the Nottinghamshire-based club finished 21st and lost eight of their last nine games.

Making 12 appearances for the League 2 side, Thomas showed skill beyond his young age, scoring once and contributing two assists.

In an interview with the Nottingham Post, Murray alluded to the attention his central midfielder was attracting, saying: “There’s certain individuals in there that, probably not on a consistent basis, but in a team that’s been struggling have put performances in that have caught the eye of people.”

“There was another club here watching Jack on Saturday (in a game v Accrington Stanley) and we had some interest at the start of the week from a couple of Championship clubs.”

Murray was keen to say that additions in the summer will be key to their squad next season, as he doesn’t want too ‘put too much pressure’ on the young stars at the club.
