Five players Millwall need to retain

Millwall were officially relegated to League One on Tuesday night after relegation rivals Rotherham United beat Reading 2-1, meaning the Lions couldn’t survive the drop even if they managed to win against Wolves on Saturday.

Manager Ian Holloway was sacked for the first time in his managerial career last month and was replaced with club legend and all time top-scorer Neil Harris. The former striker came in as an interim manager but has now been appointed on a permanent basis.

Despite being unable to avoid relegation, Harris has brought some life back to the side and has overseen a general improvement in performances. There are some good players in the squad who perhaps don’t deserve to be playing in League One next year, players which Harris and the club must do their very best to keep at the Den if they are to bounce back into the Championship straight away.

Here we look at who the key players have been this season and why they need to remain Millwall players.
