Seven Supporter Awards for Clayton Donaldson

Clayton Donaldson collected seven out of the nine player of the year supporter awards yesterday after a fantastic debut season at Blues.

The 31-year-old has scored 16 goals in all competitions this year, making him the top scorer at the club.

The striker’s goalscoring record as well as his all round game have left many wondering why he hadn’t had a chance at this level before.

Full-back Paul Caddis and midfielder David Davis picked up the other two awards after having very consistent seasons.

However, Donaldson’s performance has been absolutely brilliant and deserved some recognition. His off-the-ball work, combined with his pace and power have made him a nuisance for many Championship defences.

Given the fact that Donaldson cost the club nothing in terms of a transfer fee, it must be seen as one of the signings of the season, and some credit must go to Lee Clark for spotting and signing such a talented player who appeared to go under the radar.

Demarai Gray has been attracting attention from some bigger clubs, but had Donaldson been a few years younger then there may have been plenty of teams looking at the forward.

Hopefully Blues will be able to hold onto the striker who is obviously a fan favourite and an important player for the club.
