Cellino on Hasselbaink rumours – ‘forget it’

Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino has dismissed rumours that ex-Leeds player and current manager of Burton Albion Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink will be the club’s next head coach.

Rumours appeared late last week about the possibility of Hasselbaink making an Elland Road return, but when questioned about this Cellino, who is currently banned by the Football League, said “just more talk. Forget it.”

Cellino also declined to discuss current head coach Neil Redfearn’s future, simply stating that they will “speak about it all when I’m back next week”. Redfearn, a popular figure amongst Leeds United supporters, said after his sides 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday that “where the club is and with the talent we’ve got coming through the academy – which has been the fruits of all the academy staff, not just me; everybody that’s been involved – I’d say I’m in the best place to develop that and harness that.”

Meanwhile, the Football League have allowed Cellino to attend Leeds’ final game of the season against Rotherham on Saturday, and have also granted a request that Cellino would be allowed to attend the End of Season Awards on Saturday evening. The Football League said that Cellino would be allowed “on the basis that he is attending as a spectator only.”

Leeds owner Cellino was suspended by the Football League for failing the League’s Owner and Directors test, and following his unsuccessful appeal, had to step down from his position on 23rd January. The Italian has said that he will be back at the club next week after his ban officially expires on Sunday, and admits that he will return to the club with “more problems than I had when I went away three months ago.”
