Spurs and Villa interested in Addicks young keeper

Tottenham and Aston Villa are reportedly keeping an eye on Charlton’s keeper Nick Pope after a string of impressive performances.

The 22 year-old stopper has been at The Valley since 2011, but has only made nine appearances for Charlton due to eight loan spells.

Gradually working his way up the leagues, Pope’s first loan stint came in the Isthmian League with Harrow Borough, then progressing to the Conference South with Welling, Pope spent part of last season in the Conference Premier with Cambridge United and then Aldershot Town.

York City then came in for the keeper, and Pope hasn’t disappointed in League 2, as his record of 15 shutouts in 22 games helped the Minstermen into the play-offs.

In the January transfer window League 2 high-flyers Bury Town took on the 6”3’ stopper , keeping an impressive amount of clean sheets. and Pope picked up where he left off with York City. 10 clean sheets in 18 games for the Shakers has helped them into a play-off place in League 2, which has unsurprisingly led to interest from higher up the football pyramid for his services

With Charlton having set a price tag of around £750,000 for Pope, it will be interesting to see if the Addicks give him a run in the first team to sway him to stay.
