Gudjohnsen gunning for more

Veteran striker Eidur Gudjohnsen has dismissed any talk of retirement amidst an action-packed week, and has opened the door for another year at Bolton.

An eventful few days for the Icelander started on International duty with the striker scoring the first goal in a comfortable 0-3 win against Kazakhstan in a European Championship qualifier.

Gudjohnsen then followed this up with a 94th minute equaliser for Bolton at home to Blackpool, earning The Trotters a well-deserved point.

In an interview which can be read in full here, Iceland’s top scorer mentioned that: “I don’t have to play on, but in my mind I am 100 per cent sure I will be playing next season.”

Playing twice in three days is taxing on any footballer – especially a 36 year-old – but the ex-Barcelona man continued his impressive goal scoring form, making it three in three, as he netted in a surprisingly comfortable 0-3 win away at Cardiff.

Adding to the drama in his life, Gudjohnsen’s wife gave birth to a baby daughter on Wednesday, which is their fourth child together, and as such the forward has commented that his contract “hasn’t been top of my priority list”.

Joining Bolton in December of 2014, following stints abroad in Belgium and Greece, Gudjohnsen has played for a total of 15 clubs during his playing time. In his illustrious career, which includes a Champions League medal, a Premier League medal, and a La Liga title among others, the striker seems as happy as ever at the Marcon Stadium (formerly the Reebok Stadium).

Talks of a contract haven’t begun as of yet, but Gudjohnsen is confident of a deal being struck, stating: “When the time is right we will talk about it. I’m sure we’ve got enough time to be able to look forward to next season.”
