Barnsley v Sheffield United

Sat 4th April 2015

 Overview

This Saturday, Nigel Clough’s Sheffield United make the short trip up the M1 to Oakwell to face an upbeat Barnsley side who have experienced good fortunes under their new boss. With Lee Johnson replacing Danny Wilson in late February, the Tykes are unbeaten in their last 9 games. Johnson’s side are now in contention for a play off place. They are 1 point away from Chesterfield who are in 6th place. A notable result for Barnsley came last week away at Ashton Gate. where they fought hard for a 2-2 draw against top of the table Bristol City.

Sheffield United and their 6000 travelling supporters will be wanting to see a more attacking formation from Clough on the weekend. The Blades are currently hanging onto 5th spot in the SkyBet League One table, with Chesterfield, Rochdale, Barnsley and Peterborough all focussed on overhauling the Blades. If the Blades are to maintain a relaxed approach to gaining a play off place, they cannot allow the pursuing pack to close the small gap this Easter weekend.

Last Time Out

BARNSLEY XI (v Bristol City)   Wildsmith, Cranie, Mvoto, Nyatanga, Smith, Stewart, Hourihane, Pearson, Scowen, Winnall, Ibehre

TEAM NEWS (Official Site)

Goalkeepers Ross Turnball, and Adam Davies will not be in the Barnsley team for the derby clash. Joe Wildsmith who is on loan from Sheffield Wednesday looks the most likely to feature again for the Tykes following a great debut display against Bristol City last Saturday. Mason Holgate is still out of action with a hamstring problem. Johnson could recall defender Peter Ramage to his side.

Stefan Scougall and Jay McEveley could return to the Sheffield United side on Saturday. Mark Howard should be fit enough to keep his regular starting place as number one goalkeeper for the Blades. Former Tyke, Matt Done and captain Micheal Doyle are also in contention for a place in the starting 11 at Oakwell.
