Chesterfield 0 – 0 Portsmouth – Player ratings and highlights

Chesterfield 0 – 0 Portsmouth

The televised game on Monday night was set up to be a great affair with the league’s leaders coming up against the divisions biggest club. However, all the build up failed to deliver as a Chesterfield failed to break down a solid Portsmouth defence with their opponents having the better chances on the night. The game was very open for the first 20 minutes as Ricky Holmes caused Chesterfield all sorts of problems making a chance for Jake Jervis who was denied by a fantastic save from ‘keeper Tommy Lee. Chesterfield settled into the game more as the half went on and dominated in terms of possession but struggled to fashion any real chances and Pompey restricted them to a couple of long range efforts.

The second half continued in a similar fashion as the home team had all the ball but Portsmouth countered in numbers and created a great chance when Wes Fogden found himself in on goal but denied by another fantastic save from the ever-impressive Tommy Lee. As the game went into the last 10 minutes Chesterfield brought on Armand Gnanduillet who proved to be their brighest spark going forward. Going into injury the Spireites other two substitutes, Jay O’Shea and Marc Richards combined to create their best chance of the game as Trevor Carson held on the Richards’ header.
