Ekstrand left stranded

Watford defender Joel Ekstrand has suffered a serious knee injury which could leave him out for nine months.

The 26 year old has suffered cruciate ligament damage and is unlikely to be involved in the team until 2016.

The head of medical team at Watford told the official club site: “He caught his studs in the turf and has damaged his cruciate ligament in his left knee. He’ll have surgery in a week or so’s time, then it’s rehab after that. The feeling for this type of injury is around the nine months mark to get back.”

Ekstrand has appeared 25 times for his side this season, but will no longer be involved in their late title push.
