Blackpool chairman charged over abusive texts

Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston has been charged by the FA for sending abusive text messages to a supporter.

In December, it was rumoured that the Blackpool chairman sent abusive text messages to a fan, named Stephen Smith, calling him a ‘retard’ and later told him to ‘enjoy the rest of his special needs day out’.

The FA stated on their official website, “Blackpool FC Chairman Karl Oyston has been charged by the FA in relation to comments made in a text message exchange.”

After the incident, Oyston did apologise, but the FA have confirmed it is in breach of rules.

Oyston has until 6PM on March 30 to respond to the charges.
