Blues Bring in Two As Whatmough Ruled Out

Portsmouth have brought in loan cover after young defender Jack Whatmough was ruled out for the rest of the season with  a knee injury.

Pompey have recruited Blackpool’s Nyron Nosworthy and QPR’s Cole Kpekawa until the end of the current campaign. Nosworthy has only played five times this season and Kpekawa six, but with both captain Paul Robinson and Whatmough ruled out Andy Awford has been left with little choice.

England under-19 international Whatmough has played 24 times this season but went down after challenging a Cheltenham player during Tuesday’s 2-2 draw. Robinson is also a doubt after needing surgery for a cheekbone injury.

Manager Awford had earlier told the Portsmouth News:

“There is a possibility Jack could be out for the rest of the season. We are looking at the loan market and trying to get the best that is available.”

34-year-old Nosworthy, who will wear the number 24 shirt while at the club, told the Portsmouth website:

“I spoke to the manager and he made me feel very welcome and confident. I’m looking forward to finishing the season strongly and playing in front of 15,000 fans every other week.”

Twelfth placed Portsmouth play AFC Wimbledon on Saturday at Kingsmeadow.
