Tom Ince has turned down the chance to be involved in Gareth Southgate’s England under 21 squad to face Czech Republic and Germany.
Ince has been a regular for the under 21s but has been omitted at his own request so he can focus on club football. The 23 year old is currently playing his football at promotion-chasing Derby County, on loan from Premier League side Hull. Ince has scored an impressive 6 goals in 10 games for the Rams but has been unable to steer his side to a victory in their last five league games.
Speaking to The Telegraph about Ince’s absence from the squad, Southgate said “I have to say I was surprised. He has obviously been a regular for us all the way through the campaign. But he feels at this moment in time he has got some priorities at club level. There is some uncertainty about where he is going to be at club level next season.”
