First in was Wednesday on a Monday, then Derby, Norwich and Nottingham Forest stepped out but now it appears that Middlesbrough are about to set out on a Rhodes trip with the aim of attracting Blackburn’s out-of-favour striker, Jordan Rhodes, to the Riverside. Despite a definitive avowal that this particular Rhodes wasn’t going anywhere by manager Gary Bowyer, sources at Blackburn Rovers ‘unofficial’ blog ‘Vital Blackburn Rovers’ mention that contact has been made between Boro and Rovers, according to BBC Tees Sport. Middlesbrough are remaining tight-lipped with the standard refusal to comment being offered.
Rhodes is a prolific striker and has contributed 13 goals and 3 assists this season to go with the 25 goals and 4 assists that he marked last season. When/If Rhodes is loaned then you’d think that any Championship team would be interested in loaning someone who is a proven goalscorer and has already proved his calibre at Championship level.
With so many teams being linked as ‘interested parties’ with Rhodes, despite him being seen as ‘not available’, it will be interesting to see how long the smoke lasts before the flames are seen.
Jordan Rhodes has now been picked to start ahead of Rudy Gestede in tonight’s game against Bolton – seems the smoke’s drifting a little bit longer in this one
