Derby County attacking midfielder, Ivan Calero, has been training with League Two Burton Albion, reveals Steve McClaren: fuelling speculation that a loan move is not far away, reports the Derby Telegraph.

Speaking at his press conference, McClaren revealed that the 19-year-old has been training with the Brewers.

“We are just giving him a change of environment. We said it might be interesting to go down for a day or two and train and see if he can develop from that.

“It is about under-21 players gaining experience. We have got Kwame Thomas and Alefe Santos out on loan at Notts County.”

McClaren and Albion boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink are believed to have a strong relationship, after the latter spent time observing Derby training sessions when seeking his first managerial job in England.

Despite making two first team appearances since signing from Atletico Madrid, and scoring one goal, Calero has struggled to break into Derby’s settled first team squad, so a loan move looks increasingly likely.
