Millwall re-sign Stefan Maierhofer

The 6″7 Austrian striker has re-signed with Millwall on a short-term deal, seeing him stay at The Den until the end of the season.

Millwall first signed ‘The Hof’ back in March last year and he played a vital part in securing Championship football for The Lions for another season. But, at the end of last season, the club and Maierhofer were unable to finalise a longer deal due to the players wage demands.

Manager Ian Holloway has identified a target man as a player Millwall need – something Maierhofer is able to do very well (Which isn’t surprising considering his height!).

But is Maierhofer what Millwall fans want? From my point of view – yes. A player who is able to win headers is exactly what we have been crying out for. Something which contributed to our great form at the end of last season.

Millwall recently signed pacey winger Paris Cowan-Hall from Wycombe. With his pinpoint crossing and trickery, and Maierhofers height, they could link up well and the goals could be flying in – I hope, anyway. He also adds another option to Millwall’s attack. The Austrian will allow Lee Gregory to make runs in behind the defence, only needing a flick on from Maierhofer, to see him through on goal.

Stefan Maierhofer becomes the third player to join The Lions so far in the January transfer window.
