McGivern sidelined for six weeks

Port Vale defender Ryan McGivern could be out for up to six weeks after he fractured his left arm.

The 24 year-old suffered a fracture during last week’s 2-0 defeat to Coventry and was out for Saturday’s win at Crawley.

Port Vale’s manager Rob Page spoke about the injury, saying: “It’s not great news for him. He has fractured his arm and the reasons we waited to put that out were because we have had to see the extent of it.

“He has had to have a plate in his arm, so we will have to wait and see how long the healing time is for that.

“We wish him all the best and a speedy recovery. Anything with a break is normally six weeks but we are hoping he can get back sooner than that if he can play with a protective covering.”

McGivern, who joined the club from Hibernian, has made his way back into the Northern Ireland squad for the European Championship qualifiers.
