4 things we learned about the Championship this weekend

3. Reading run out of patience with Adkins

Different ownership regimes have broken promises of finance to spend and left Adkins looking to the youth graduates to make up his matchday squad. Nevertheless, the nature of the beast now means that results are the premium that owners care about. On this front it has to be said that Reading have not done enough this season to date. You have to admire Adkins’ positivity and defiance to his principles, however it just became to much for the men in the boardroom. Just one win in five and consistently remaining in the bottom half of the table is not good enough for the Royals and perhaps the manner of the weekend’s defeat was Adkins’ undoing. A 6-1 defeat at Birmingham, whose previous highest win perviously this season was a 3-1 margin over Millwall. Speculation around several names has already begun, but from this sacking the new manager will know that they will be under pressure to turn things around rather quickly.
