South Yorkshire Round-Up – 1/11/14

Charlton Athletic 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday secured a point away to Charlton Athletic to extend the run of games without a win to 7. Wednesday struck first when loanee Royston Drenthe went on a surging run from the half way line before working his way to the 18 yard box. The former Real Madrid man finished off the move with a superb left footed drive across the keeper, which nestled into the bottom corner.

The goal seemed to wake Charlton up a bit and it was them who had the next notable effort. Chris Solley received the ball about 25 yards out following a half cleared corner and he hit it first time. However, his effort was just over. Charlton’s persistence paid off. Rhoys Wiggins went on a weaving run from the left hand side before crossing low into the six yard box. His low cross was tapped in by Igor Vetokele after coming on off the bench.
