League One Preview: Oldham Athletic v Coventry City

Team news

Oldham will be delighted to see central defender George Elokobi back in the matchday squad after a four week absence due to a thigh injury. Tomorrow’s game may come too soon for the robust Cameroonian after only returning to full training with the side yesterday morning.

The Latics continue to be without club captain Adam Lockwood for the game which means it looks likely Lee Johnson will continue with the same 11 that picked up an impressive 1-1 draw to Chesterfield on Saturday.

Key for Johnson will be that his top scorer Jonathan Forte (8 this season) and former Coventry-man Danny Philliskirk came through Saturday’s match unscathed, ensuring the Latics have plenty of attacking threat against Coventry’s ropy defence.

Coventry manager, Steven Pressley meanwhile made 4 changes to his side against Bristol on Saturday and it is likely he could make the same amount of changes for this one.

What is certain for Coventry is that left-back Danny Pugh will be out after picking up a recurring injury to his ankle thats likely to keep him out of action for a month. Academy graduate Ryan Haynes looks likely to be brought into the team to replace Pugh whilst captain Reda Johnson will still not be fully recovered from his groin injury.

Better news on the injury front for City is that influential midfielder John Fleck looks likely to return to the fold after missing Saturday’s defeat, whilst Shaun Miller will be hoping for a start up front after producing a bright performance that saw him get on the scoresheet on Saturday. It is likely Bournemouth loanee Josh McQuoid would make way for Miller after disappointing at the weekend.
