Oldham Athletic 3-2 Scunthorpe United

Oldham began the game the stronger of the two sides with the majority of possession in the early moments but didn’t really make any chances count. And they were punished on the half our when Iron new boy Rory Fallon, who only signed this week, hit a curling effort destined for the goal before a fantastic save from the Latics keeper Paul Rachubka. However, from the resulting corner Andrew Boyce nodded home unmarked to give the visitors an unexpected lead. The game was level within minuets, however, as a through ball from Oldham Centre midfielder Mike Jones some how made its way through the defence into the path of Forte leaving him one on one with the Iron keeper and he calmly slotted home to level the match. Oldham continued to press on for a second and were denied only by some fantastic acrobatics from Olejnik to deny Kelly what would of been a fantastic long range goal. It was the visitors who went in to half time with the lead though as Rory Fallon reacted quickest to a flick on from Paddy Madden as he turned and shot beautifully into the bottom corner.

Again Oldham came out the stronger of the two teams, and finally made it count when Danny Philliskirk slotted home inside the six yard box after a good driven cross to level the game once again. The comeback was finally complete on 83 minuets when Danny Philliskirk capped off a fine set piece move from the home side with a good header past Olejnik after a fantastic header back across gaol from centre half James Wilson. Overall a good comeback for Oldham, but Scunthorpe will regret time wasting throughout the game. On a lighter note just worth a mention for the Scunthorpe substitute Kee, who kept the home fans entertained throughout the second half with numerous score gestures, and even clapping along to the Oldham songs. Good to see players and fans from different sides having a good hearted laugh, isn’t seen often any more in modern football, credit to him.
