Brentford have announced the signing of Portugal Under-21 international Alberto Coelho from Sporting Clube de Portugal, subject to International Clearance.

The 21-year-old attacker, commonly known as Betinho, completed the loan move after arriving in London on deadline day.

He caught the attention of Brentford manager Mark Warburton during the NextGen Series – a competition for European Academy teams that ran between 2011 and 2013.

“Betinho is a very talented striker that first came to prominence in the NextGen Series for Sporting Lisbon,” said Warburton, speaking to the club’s website.

“He is quick, strong and technically gifted and he shone in very good team that included João Teixeira, who is known to Brentford fans.

“Betinho had a spell out on loan last season and we have moved to bring him to Brentford.

“We are looking forward to him making a positive contribution in the season ahead.”

The attacker has scored 16 goals in 49 appearances for the Sporting B and has played at every level of football for Portugal from Under-15 to Under-21.
